Enrichment, Life skills, student Leadership

Enrichment
The sixth form at Orion Eden Park provides students with a highly positive, aspirational, and enriching educational experience. Leaders have developed an extensive programme of opportunities that broaden students’ horizons, cultivate independence, and strengthen their personal development. As a result, students are confident, articulate, and well‑prepared for their next steps.

A significant strength of the provision is the breadth and quality of the enrichment offer, which is both inclusive and responsive to student interest. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is well‑established, promoting resilience, teamwork, and leadership through a blend of community engagement and outdoor challenge. Students speak enthusiastically about the sense of achievement the award brings.

Academic stretch is further enhanced through the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), which is expertly delivered and supports students in developing high‑level research, writing, and critical‑thinking skills. Many students use the EPQ to explore areas linked to future university pathways, and leaders report strong outcomes.

Life Skills

Our Year 12 life‑skills programme plays a vital role in preparing students for life beyond 18, equipping them with the knowledge, confidence and independence they need to thrive as young adults. Through a carefully structured series of sessions, students develop a secure understanding of online safety, healthy relationships, career pathways and future ambition, as well as the importance of contributing to respectful and inclusive communities. These sessions are highly valued by students, who consistently report feeling more informed, empowered and ready for the next stage of their lives. The programme reflects our commitment to educating well‑rounded, responsible and resilient young people.

Student Leadership
Student leadership is a notable feature of the sixth form. The Sixth Form Leadership Group meets weekly and plays an active role in shaping the quality of provision. Students demonstrate ownership and maturity in their contributions, and leaders act upon their insight. The weekly Student Voice Wednesday ensures that all students have regular opportunities to share views, influence decisions, and contribute to school improvement. This culture of dialogue and partnership is widely valued across the sixth form.

Work Experience
Students in the sixth form benefit from a well‑structured and highly supportive experience programme, which plays a significant role in preparing them for life beyond school. Leaders have established strong systems to ensure that every student accesses a meaningful placement aligned with their interests, aspirations, or future study pathways. Staff work closely with students throughout the process, offering guidance on CV writing, professional communication, and interview preparation – this also forms part of our weekly tutor plan.
